THE BANDS
FROM IRELAND
KIDD BLUNT
(friday @ Vera)
Kidd blunt formed in wicklow ireland in the summer of 1998. we began gigging, appearing on a few compilation releases and essentially developing our sound. early 2001 saw the self-release of our first e.p. "82" following this we gigged a lot more and became more involved with the dublin
hardcore/punk scene. over the following couple of years we toured in ireland, holland, belgium, scotland, and england. in which time our second release came out, this time on rejected records. a split with dublin band "puget sound". we have just recently returned from a tour of denmark and sweden with dublin based band "easpa measa" our new full length release is on the way and should be out soon on "bring your own" records. kidd blunt are: steve-drums/ turlough-vocals,guitar/ eoin-guitar,vocals/luke-bass

RUNNING RIOT
(saturday @ Opdrift)
RUNNIN RIOT got together in 1997. A year later they released their debut album "Reclaim The Streets", an album which has since become a modern classic Oi! / Streetpunk record. The band was very active during this period, playing a 6 week US tour together with the Dropkick Murphys as well as shows with the likes of UK Subs, The Business, Sham 69, Dropkick Murphys, Gundog, Knuckledust, Red Alert, Red London, Distortion, Warriors, Bombshell Rocks, Voice Of A Generation, US Bombs, Cockney Rejects etc.
The follow-up record came in 2001 in the shape of "Monk's Not Dead". Not strictly a new album in the normal sense, this release featured 5 new tracks as well as a handful of cover versions from the likes of GG Allin, Cock Sparrer, Twisted Sister and Ruts. Line-up changes plagued the band during this period meaning that they could not push the new release and play live as much as they had previously. In 2003 vocalist Colin decided it was time to reinvigorate the band. Shows were booked and new material was written. A short time later the band went into the studios of the famous Belfast Warzone Centre and recorded the new songs, collected under the proud title "Built In Belfast".
The result is a very compact new album. Melodic yet hard Oi! tunes that certainly bear all the hallmarks of the classic sound of British Oi! from the early heyday. Colin's distinctive vocals carry the tunes and add the unmistakeable Runnin' Riot stamp. It is certainly worth giving the album a closer listen. On investigating deeper, you can hear the powerful messages contained in the lyrics. The band has always been recognised as having more to say than run-of-the-mill oi! bands, and on this album topics such as their home country, people, football, political and social issues are tackled. Punks and skins, rich and poor and the relation to the working class and of course praise of their favourite poison the infamous "Buckfast Tonic Wine" are also included in their repertoire. A highlight of the album is the track "Armchair Anarchist", recorded together with Atilla The Stockbroker at a session in Belfast. The result is a powerful and important oi! album and the welcome return of one of today's most relevant bands..."

FREEBOOTERS (saturday @ Opdrift)
The Freebooters are a 5 piece DIY "Fists in the Air" Streetpunk band from Ireland with Conor on vocals (old man in his first band), Thomas (ex Control and Nappyrash) on vocals, Fiona on bass (ex The Poke), Mickey on guitar (ex The Poke) and Crispo (also in The Dagda and ex Pink Turds in Space, Bleeding Rectum, Brawl and a million other bands) on drums. The band plays tight, pacy punk with the odd bit of ska and reggae with lyrics ranging from serious issues such as Businessmen thinking they own punk and Irish police violence to songs about Skinheads falling in love while removing their steel toe capped boots at airport security x ray machines and drinking. The bands live appearances routinely turn into your typical racous "Legendary Irish drinking sessions" and certain members of the band are experts at talking total drunken rubbish all night so be warned!

FROM GRONINGEN
RAT PATROL (friday @ Vera)
Rat Patrol exists since 1988 and is named after a song by Naked Raygun. We are influenced by really all sort of things, from 77 punk to the loudest hatecore. Jansel and Roelsel played with Deluxe Green (punkrock 1978 - 1989); Henry played drums with De Verkouden Olifant (1982, punk), M.B.P. (hardcore, 1985 - 1988) and Kotton Krown (guitarpop, 1989 - 1992), and was singer for Chronicore (punk, 1991-1993) and Larry Speaks (hardcore, 1994-95). He also played drums for Over The Moon (guitarpop), from 1996 thru 1998. Rat Patrol plays pure hardcore (no metal). Lyrics are important, but more to give rise to discussion or thinking, than to show a pointed finger. In between the concerts two albums were recorded: 'Rat Patrol' (1989) and 'Not a youth cult' (1992). They were recorded at Joke's Rent-a-Cow in Amsterdam and released on the bands own label 'Highly Obscure Records'. Both records were released on 1 CD. The new studio CD "Painkiller" was released in July 1997, recorded at Bunt's studio in Utrecht.

FROM ELSEWHERE
FLYBLOWN (from Essex, UK / friday @ Vera & saturday @ Bar-A-Kade)
Formed february 2004 from ex-members of Scalplock, Unseen Terror, Azagthoth, Morose, Harmony As One and Vehemence. With a line-up of Pete - Vocals/Guitar, Sam - Bass, Piers - Drums. Recorded a demo called "Rotten To The Core", toured the UK with Avskum and played a lot of gigs. Toured more, this time with Bombstrike and Project Hopeless midsummer, played some more gigs. Then released an LP "Genocide - Genocide". Travelled to Sweden for yet more gigs in february 2005, then Sam quit the band to be replaced by Aaron. Recorded songs for a split 7" with Disclose in march, then did a fucking great uk tour with Martyrdod. Shortly afterwards we began writing the next LP and then Piers quit the band, leaving Pete as the only original member. We played some gigs with Chaos UK and Warhead, and toured with Swedish hc legends Bruce Banner, with Sned from Boxed In, Oi Polloi, Health Hazard etc. filling in on drums (cheers you grumpy northern git). Once we got back, we got on the case of finding a new drummer, and now have George of Dead By Dawn drumming for us, i know this sounds generic, but this is the strongest line-up so far, and the band sounds more solid than ever, we have just toured the UK again with Ambulance from Sweden, and recorded our new LP "The Fear and The Fury", its sounds somewhere betwen Anti-Cimex, Antisect and Martyrdod, and we're all really fucking happy with it..........Split 7" with Disclose should be out very soon

INSTINCT OF SURVIVAL
(from Hamburg, Germany / saturday @ Opdrift)
Instinct of Survival from hamburg is hauke (drums), padde (bass & vocals) and kalle(guitar & vocals). we came together in 1998 after the split of our old band sperrzone. since then we´ve played about 100 gigs mostly in Germany but some outside, released one 7" , a split lp with wojzcech, some tapes and compilation tracks.  to give a description of our music i would label it as crust/stenchcore influenced by bands like anti sect, hellbastard, deviated instinct... lyricly we deal with political, social and personal topics with an ironic touch.

FOOTBALL
The locals FC Groningen are playing Sunday 18th September a homegame against PSV Eindhoven. This is considered a big game with loads of security measurements (read: riots in the streets). You can usually buy tickets until one day before the game and get the at the stadium the same day (if it's not sold out yet). You can also join Captain's Shit team playing a couple blocks around the Stadium's corner.
